about

Album originally released 1999, SynGate Re-release 2009

Review from 2000:
The most recently recorded of the three 1999 CDR releases for Pyramid Peak, "Atmosphere" is from 1998. The band brings us another strong set of melodic, sequencer-infused electronic music.

The loop to begin "Dreamscape Part 1" is very similar to the sequencer pattern that opens the Tangerine Dream classic, "Tangram." Some light, crisp percussion bubbles over the top, and we're off and running. "Dreamscape Part 2" is a distinct track, not particularly related to the first part, but it is equally good. The tone is lighter, playful yet reflective. Bright piano weaves itself through layers of pads and other electronics. "Blossom Dust" starts as a very flowing piece, but deep majestic drums enter the scene as it develops, giving the music a more epic feel. "Quasar" is the same, as far as I can tell, as the version on their "Explorer" CD. As one might expect, "Sequential Tenses" plays with sequencer layers. This one moves at a breakneck pace. Things slow down nicely with the airy, lengthy title track. This is gorgeous electronic music, with just the right mix of melody and sequencing. It develops beautifully, with a nice variety of musical themes. A sense of humor comes through on "Fisherman's Hope," with an amusing, odd sound that starts the piece, then fades, then makes a brief reappearance out of the blue for the final note. Makes me laugh every time. "Wonderworld" is a touch on the cute side, but it has a catchy beat and cool sounds just the same. The disc closes with the title track from their "Explorer" CD.

I'm unsure why they chose to include two titles otherwise available, but there is more than enough new music here to satisfy electronic music fans. Good stuff.
